With 20 plus years of music composition experience (20 years? Where did the time go?), arranging and performance studies, Ken grew up in the age of reel-to-reel studio recording and had the opportunity to transition to the world of Digital Audio Recording from the very beginning. ”I remember interning and working with Aslan Studios when the first DAW made its way to the studio. The days of manually fading sliders was about to come to an end. Since that time, level, pan and effects automation has become my best set of friends… Ok… I’m a geek and need to get out more.”
Ken attributes his ability to score while under aggressive Film and Video timelines to his studies in Jazz Improv, Project Management skills and Starbuck’s Sumatra blend carefully ground and brewed fresh every morning.
“When I’m scoring for a film, I have to keep several things in the forefront of my mind. It isn’t just about the music. It’s about what is going to fit the mood and intensity of the film, what the Director, Producer or Music Supervisor wants at the end of the day. It’s about making changes you might not always agree with, but work better within the entirety of the picture. You can be creative, you can be innovative, but you d*** well better make the composition support the movie. “
